Boston 02108 plumbing notice

Faucet drip or leak at the base?

Name where the water starts and what handle position produces it.

01

Keep these conditions separate

Keep these conditions separate

  • Outlet drip: count or time the drip after both handles are fully off.
  • Handle or base water: observe whether it appears during use, after use, or from surface splash.
  • Under-sink water: check visible hoses, stops and connections without tightening or turning them.
  • Rim and backsplash water: compare normal splash and seal paths before calling it a supply leak.

The decision boundary

The decision boundary

An outlet that drips while the faucet is off points to a different repair conversation than water that appears around a handle, under the base, at a supply connection, or only when the sink is splashed. Dry the area, observe one normal use cycle, and stop if water reaches the cabinet or wall.

Compare the proposed response

Compare the proposed response

  • Is the repair limited to a cartridge, seal, aerator or connection, or does it require fixture replacement?
  • Are shutoffs operable and included if they cannot isolate the faucet?
  • Does replacement change hole pattern, countertop, backsplash or supply requirements?
  • What controlled use will confirm that every leak path is dry?
